Artifacts
This is an image of my first birthday.
I am about to put my feet into my Minnie Mouse cake while my parents are cooing in my ears.
This memory is embedded in my mind from so many re-tellings over the years, only now, decades later, finally experiencing it for the first time--again. Distorted like my memory is.
What holds more weight: the memories in my head or the ones I watch on home movies? I’ve been held by people I will never meet. How can my body have experienced something that I couldn’t possibly remember?
This piece will be an ongoing experiment where I explore the video and material artifacts from my past.
